Black Tea is highly oxidised and therefore is dark in colour. All the steps like withering, rolling, fermentation and firing are involved in the production of black tea. Loose leaf teas can be made in an orthodox way or by using CTC (crush, tear, curl), mechanized technique. When brewed, colour varies from amber to red to dark brown.

TYPES OF BLACK TEA

Black tea varieties are different from each region. In and around India one can find black teas from Darjeeling, Assam, Kangra, Nilgiris, parts of North East and Nepal. However, black teas from the same region differ from one another owing to it’s season of pluck – also known as flush. Darjeeling Black teas bear a fragrant, floral flavour. As the season progresses from summer into spring and autumn , astringency goes down and fruity attributes progress with each season, thereby making Summer flush rich and robust while spring and autumn are lighter ones. The Assam black teas are almost always consistent with thick malty and honey flavours with hints of wood and toasted nuts with high astringency around the year. The Nilgiris is the only region producing winter flush and black teas from here typically boasts of floral, fruity and fresh teas. Besides, these staple varieties, you can find blends such as rose sin tea, orange grass black tea, Pineapple ginger iced tea, Pomegranate Citrus Iced tea blends.
